An Assessment of IT Tools Required for Digital Transformation of GSCM Processes in the Nigerian Construction Industry

Abstract

Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) is poised to be instrumental in guiding the construction sector toward more environmentally sustainable practices. Digital transformation, through the adoption of various Information Technology (IT) tools, offers significant potential to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and sustainability of GSCM processes. This study assesses the IT tools required for the digital transformation of GSCM processes in the Nigerian construction industry. The study identifies key IT tools relevant to GSCM and evaluates their level of awareness, availability, and utilisation among construction professionals. Findings reveal that while there is a moderate level of awareness of various digital tools, their actual adoption and utilisation in GSCM processes remain low, hindered by factors such as cost, lack of technical expertise, and inadequate infrastructure. The study recommends increased awareness campaigns, capacity building, and policy support to drive the adoption of IT tools for GSCM in the Nigerian construction industry, ultimately contributing to optimizing operations and fostering greater accountability throughout the supply chain.
